Sr Virtualization Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Virtualization Engineer with a strong background in VMware Hypervisor and related technologies. The ideal candidate will design, implement, and manage virtualized environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability. This role requires expertise in VM replication and migration, scripting capabilities, and collaboration with technical teams to deliver robust virtualization solutions. 

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

• Experience: 

• Minimum 7+ years of hands-on experience with VMware Hypervisor (ESXi) and related technologies (vCenter, vSphere). 

• Proven expertise in VM replication and migration tools like VMware Site Recovery Manager, vMotion, or similar. 

• Technical Skills: 

• Proficiency in PowerShell and PowerCLI, Python scripting languages 

• Strong understanding of networking concepts, including VLANs, virtual switches, and distributed networking. 

• Experience with server hardware installation and configuration. 

• Soft Skills: 

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for collaboration with highly technical teams. 

• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Virtualization Design and Management: 

• Design, deploy, and manage VMware virtualized environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter. 

• Perform installations, configurations, upgrades, and patching of VMware components and servers. 

• Optimize virtualization infrastructure for performance, availability, and scalability. 

2. Replication and Migration Solutions: 

• Implement and maintain VM replication and migration solutions for disaster recovery and business continuity. 

• Perform migrations of virtual machines across datacenters or platforms with minimal downtime. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to VM replication and migrations. 

3. Automation and Scripting: 

• Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, or similar tools to automate routine tasks and optimize workflows. 

• Create custom scripts to streamline server provisioning, VM deployment, and infrastructure management. 

• Collaborate with teams to implement automated monitoring and reporting solutions. 

4. Infrastructure Support: 

• Provide support for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers and related hardware in LAN and standalone ESX environments. 

• Manage virtual network configurations, including virtual switches, VLANs, and distributed networking. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues within the virtualized environment. 

5. Collaboration and Communication: 

• Work closely with systems engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to design and implement virtualization solutions. 

• Act as a point of escalation for complex technical issues within the virtualized infrastructure. 

• Document solutions, processes, and configurations for internal knowledge sharing. 

6. Monitoring and Optimization: 

• Monitor the health, performance, and capacity of the virtualized environment using VMware and third-party tools. 

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies. 

• Plan and execute capacity upgrades and scalability projects. 

7. Security and Compliance: 

• Ensure the virtualization environment adheres to organizational security policies and industry best practices. 

• Perform vulnerability assessments and apply necessary patches or updates. 

• Maintain documentation for compliance audits and security reviews. 

8. Backup and Recovery: 

• Design and implement backup and recovery strategies for virtual machines and associated data. 

• Test disaster recovery plans to ensure reliability and minimize downtime. 

• Maintain and troubleshoot VM snapshots and replication configurations. 

• Education and Certifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 

VMware certifications (e.g., VCP, VCAP) are highly preferred.
