Job Summary
Accelyst is seeking an experienced IT Business Analyst to support IT project initiation efforts, technology procurements, and business systems analysis activities for a key government client. This role will be responsible for analyzing project requests, gathering and documenting business and technical requirements, supporting procurement activities, and facilitating communication between business and technology teams.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, facilitation, and documentation skills with experience supporting software development lifecycles (SDLC), business process improvement initiatives, and technology procurement efforts. This individual will work closely with stakeholders, project managers, architects, developers, and leadership teams to ensure successful project delivery and business outcomes.
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid – 1 day onsite per week)
Job Roles and Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements Management
- Participate in project intake and demand management processes to support business case development and project scope definition.
- Gather, analyze, validate, and document business, functional, technical, and non-functional requirements.
- Translate business needs into detailed functional specifications and solution requirements.
- Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, requirements sessions, and Joint Application Development (JAD) meetings.
- Identify business process inefficiencies and recommend process improvement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain:
- Business process workflows
- Current-state and future-state process documentation
- User stories and use cases
- Functional and system requirements
- System interaction diagrams
- Data mappings and logical data models
- Metadata documentation
- Screen mockups and wireframes
- Reporting requirements
- Training documentation
- Test cases and acceptance criteria
- Maintain requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate solution outcomes against business requirements.
IT Procurement & Vendor Support
- Support development of Statements of Work (SOW), procurement packages, solicitations, and related contracting documentation.
- Assist with technology acquisitions involving software, hardware, professional services, and enterprise technology solutions.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, procurement teams, legal teams, security teams, and business stakeholders throughout procurement activities.
- Support vendor evaluations and documentation reviews.
SDLC & Project Support
- Participate in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities from project initiation through implementation.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, developers, QA teams, and business stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly understood and implemented.
- Assist with stakeholder coordination and project communications.
- Create process diagrams, specifications, presentations, and supporting project artifacts.
- Provide project status updates, maintain work logs, and manage assigned tasks.
- Develop effort estimates and support project scheduling activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience as an IT Business Analyst supporting technology projects, system implementations, or IT procurements.
- Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
- Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing complex business, data, and functional requirements.
- Experience facilitating stakeholder interviews, workshops, and JAD sessions.
- Strong experience developing:
- Process flows
- Workflow diagrams
- Functional specifications
- Current-state and future-state process documentation
- User Interface (UI) mockups
- Experience developing Statements of Work (SOW) and procurement-related documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written communication skills with experience creating detailed specifications, reports, and presentations.
- Experience working collaboratively with both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) certification.
- Experience supporting government or public-sector technology initiatives.
- Experience with procurement lifecycle management and vendor coordination.
- Familiarity with workflow automation and business process improvement initiatives.
- Experience using tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, Visio, SharePoint, Balsamiq, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
