Summary

STV's Buildings Division is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our New York City office. This is a senior-level leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines strong HVAC design expertise with project leadership, client management, and staff development skills.

The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical building systems across a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader, providing innovative, sustainable, and code-compliant solutions from project pursuit through construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of HVAC and mechanical systems for complex building projects.
  • Develop mechanical system concepts and perform engineering analyses, calculations, and equipment selections.
  • Prepare construction documents, design reports, technical specifications, and cost opinions.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, energy modeling, ventilation analyses, life-cycle cost evaluations and code compliance reviews.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing/fire protection engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and quality assurance throughout all project phases.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Meet with clients, present technical solutions, and provide recommendations that align with project goals, budgets, and operational requirements.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, designers, and BIM/Revit staff.
  • Support proposal development.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, decarbonization initiatives, electrification strategies, and evolving industry best practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in HVAC and mechanical systems design for commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, transportation, and government facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and mentoring junior engineering staff.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water and heating hot water systems, central utility plants, ventilation and exhaust systems, building automation and controls integration, and energy-efficient building systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Autocad and BIM-based design workflows.
  • Experience using HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
  • Thorough understanding of ASHRAE standards and guidelines, International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), NFPA standards, and applicable local and state building codes.
  • Experience preparing specifications, technical reports, construction documents, and cost estimates.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage clients, agencies, and project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing large-scale public-sector, transportation, federal, state, or municipal projects.
  • Experience with decarbonization, electrification, net-zero, and high-performance building initiatives.
  • Experience with computational energy analysis, building performance modeling, and commissioning support.

$204,645.30 - $233,880.34
