Role Summary
The Principal Data Governance Architect plays a critical leadership role in shaping and governing U.S. commercial data assets to ensure trusted, high quality, and reusable data across the organization. This position drives enterprise alignment around data standards, metadata, and systems of record while enabling business leaders and technical teams to fully leverage governed data for insight and innovation.
In this role, you will define and execute data governance strategy, guide platform evolution, and serve as a connective leader between IT, business stakeholders, and enterprise data teams. Your work will directly influence data accessibility, compliance, and decision making at scale.
Key Responsibilities
• Architect and lead the U.S. data governance roadmap, aligning metadata management and governance initiatives with enterprise data strategy
• Translate business priorities into scalable data architecture and governance solutions, ensuring clear communication and adoption across stakeholders
• Establish and govern systems of record, data ownership, and accountability across enterprise data domains
• Lead data governance councils, working groups, and steward communities to drive policy, standard, and process implementation
• Oversee data intelligence and governance platforms, ensuring accurate metadata, lineage, glossaries, and catalogs are maintained and accessible
• Drive data lineage, quality, and compliance strategies across cloud and analytics platforms
• Partner with IT and data teams to validate technical implementations against business and governance requirements
• Develop governance metrics, executive reporting, and impact analyses to support strategic decision making
Key Requirements
• Master’s degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or Analytics
• 10 or more years of experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise data stewardship roles
• 5 or more years of hands on experience with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or similar tools
• Strong expertise in metadata management, data catalogs, business glossaries, and enterprise data architecture principles
• Working knowledge of SQL, cloud data platforms, data warehouses, and modern data pipeline architectures
• Experience with Azure based ecosystems, analytics tools, and data lineage or access control frameworks
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional initiatives and mentor data stewards or governance practitioners
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills with the ability to bridge business and technical perspectives
