The Principal Reliability Engineer is a technical leader and subject matter expert in the research, architecting, development, and reliability testing of complete systems and sub-system components as part of innovative product development. This position works in, with, and across several disciplines including electrical, mechanical, fluidics, hardware, and software. The Principal Reliability Engineer architects the system, capturing customer and business requirements from reliability perspective into system and component specifications while managing project documentation. This position then works closely with members of a cross-functional team through design, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, iteration, and verification and validation to demonstrate and document product requirements. The Principal Reliability Engineer leads internal and external collaborators towards these goals.

The Principal Reliability Engineer undertakes creative work, making systematic use of investigation or experimentation, to discover or revise knowledge of reality and uses this knowledge to devise new applications.

The Principal Reliability Engineer adheres to environmental policy, procedures, and supports department environmental objectives. This position engages in Credo-based decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Define engineering projects including customer and business requirements from reliability perspective, technology research, simulations, leading reliability testing and demonstration, and project planning Lead system reliability assessments for hardware, software, and complex electromechanical sub-systems. Negotiate reliability specifications throughout the system hierarchy. Develop the project's methodology and plan for specification and requirements management related to reliability. Develop the project's methodology and plan for system reliability assessment. Conduct sub-system reliability testing and full-system reliability testing, and troubleshooting. Work with the development team to plan, design, develop, and test system functions and performance. Drive issues to closure. Lead root cause investigation and correction actions on-time with statistical techniques. Utilize root-cause techniques such as 6-sigma, fishbone, design of experiments to resolve issues with high quality and reliability. Direct work with outside contractors and suppliers in the design and development and troubleshooting of assemblies and systems. Provide technical reliability leadership in concept, development, prototyping, and system integration. Partner with project management to ensure on-time execution of project goals. Prepare reports and presentations to management on project status and technical readiness from reliability perspective. Make recommendations for change to ensure on-time completion. Define scope of parts of the projects, estimate cost and time, prepare justification for capital and expense purchases. Responsible for work flow production, training of new employees on covered jobs, answering job-related questions in one or more areas. Under general or minimum supervision, performs duties in terms of stated objectives. Generally works out details within broad guidelines and exercises considerable initiative and judgment.

Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent University degree is required; a focused degree in Electrical/Computer, Mechanical, Reliability engineering or a related field, is preferred. An advanced degree, Master's is preferred.

Required:
  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional work experience
  • Engineering experience in R&D and Reliability projects
  • Experience in Electro-Mechanical Systems
  • Strong root-cause investigation skills with statistical techniques
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to team well with other engineers and scientists.

Preferred:
  • Medical Device industry experience

Other:
  • May require up to 10% of domestic and/or international travel to other locations and sites

$102,000.00 - $177,100.00
