Job description
Drive Works / SolidWorks Implementation Expert
Reports to: Head of Engineering
Engagement: 6 months contract
THE OPPORTUNITY
Client is looking for a senior Drive Works and SolidWorks practitioner to join a high-impact engagement embedded within the engineering organization of a leading U.S. manufacturer of high-density storage and material handling products. The client operates in a configure-to-order (CTO) and engineer-to-order (ETO) environment and is migrating from a legacy configurator platform to Drive Works integrated with SolidWorks.
This is a senior, ownership-level role. You will report directly to the client’s Head of Engineering and coordinate daily with Odoo ERP delivery team. The core mandate is to build out the DriveWorks configurator with best practices for multi-level configuration and DriveWorks Live website deployment, while ensuring a phased MVP approach that delivers early validation for the engineering team as the legacy configurator transitions offline.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
· Architect and build DriveWorks configuration rules, option logic, forms, and output templates aligned to the client’s product catalog.
· Serve as the source of best practices for SolidWorks file optimization in preparation for use in a DriveWorks Live environment on the client’s website
· Ensure SolidWorks models and assemblies are correctly structured, parametrically controlled, and production ready for DriveWorks automation
· Manage revision rules, file referencing, and naming conventions throughout the transition
· Coordinate data mapping between DriveWorks-generated BOMs and Odoo 18 manufacturing BOM structure — components, routings, and variants (in coordination with Client''s IT and the Incipient Odoo team; may evolve into Phase 2 scope)
· Manage ECO/ECN change control processes to ensure all BOM changes are tracked, approved, and cleanly reflected across CAD and ERP systems
· Coordinate phased cutover planning with the Incipient ERP team to eliminate dual-entry and decommission the legacy platform cleanly
· Deliver a minimum viable product (MVP) configurator for early validation and use by the engineering team, given that the legacy configurator will go offline before full project completion
· Participate in design reviews, UAT, and go-live validation across both the engineering and ERP workstreams
· Document DriveWorks configuration standards, BOM governance rules, and integration logic for the engineering team
· Train engineering staff on DriveWorks workflows and SolidWorks model management
· Identify risks proactively and escalate to the Head of Engineering with clear recommended mitigations
WHAT YOU BRING
· 5+ years of hands-on Drive Works implementation experience — configurator architecture, rule-building, forms, and output generation
· Demonstrated DW best practices knowledge — multi-level configurator with intent to use on website via DriveWorks Live
· Expert-level SolidWorks proficiency: parametric modelling, assemblies, and configurations
· Demonstrated end-to-end delivery of a DriveWorks configurator implementation from discovery through go-live
· Deep understanding of manufacturing BOM structures — single-level, multi-level, variant/option logic — in a CTO or ETO environment
· Familiarity with ECO/ECN workflows and engineering change control processes in a production manufacturing environment
· Proven ability to work alongside ERP implementation teams on data mapping, cutover planning, and UAT
· Strong communication skills — able to hold a design review with an engineer and an ERP scoping call in the same day
· Understanding of phased delivery — starting with MVP for validation and early use, then iterating toward full configurator rollout
PREFERRED
· Odoo Manufacturing or comparable ERP (SAP, NetSuite) — BOM structures, routings, and manufacturing orders. Not necessary but would be very helpful.
· Exposure to SQL, scripting (Python, VB, PowerShell), or ETL tools relevant to BOM data migration
· Bachelor''s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field - SolidWorks certification (CSWP, CSWE, or PDM Administration)
