Data Architect / Cloud Database Migration Engineer Cloud Migration & Modernization As a Data Architect / Database Migration Engineer, you will be a hands-on technical contributor supporting the migration and modernization of business-critical applications from distributed on-premises infrastructure to cloud-native platforms in AWS and Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). You will focus on database architecture, data migration, data integrity, performance optimization, security, and operational readiness across the full migration lifecycle. This role is ideal for a deeply technical data professional who can assess legacy database environments, design target-state cloud data solutions, execute migration plans, and ensure applications continue to operate reliably, securely, and efficiently after migration. What You ll Do Assess current-state database platforms, schemas, stored procedures, integrations, dependencies, batch jobs, reporting flows, and data movement patterns.
Lead database migration planning, including discovery, dependency mapping, data profiling, conversion strategy, migration waves, validation, cutover, rollback, and post-migration stabilization.
Support selective modernization of legacy database components to improve scalability, resiliency, maintainability, automation, and performance.
Develop data migration scripts, validation routines, reconciliation processes, and repeatable migration automation.
Partner with application developers, architects, infrastructure, cybersecurity, QA, business analysts, and project managers to ensure application and database changes remain aligned.
Optimize database performance, indexing, query execution, storage patterns, and connection management for cloud environments.
Ensure data security, access controls, encryption, backup/recovery, retention, auditability, and compliance requirements are built into the solution.
Use Jira for backlog management, migration tasks, defect tracking, requirements traceability, and delivery reporting.
Use GitLab for version control, database scripts, migration code, CI/CD integration, peer review, and DevSecOps workflows.
Leverage Copilot, Codex, and similar AI-assisted tools to generate first-draft migration scripts, validation logic, documentation, test data, SQL optimization options, and automation patterns.
Required Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Strong experience with relational database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar technologies.
Experience with schema design, data modeling, stored procedures, query optimization, indexing, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Experience designing and executing data migration, data validation, reconciliation, and rollback strategies.
Strong understanding of application/database dependencies, integration patterns, APIs, batch processing, and reporting workloads.
Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for first-draft code, SQL, migration scripts, documentation, and optimization.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in fintech, payments, banking, accounting systems, or other regulated environments.
Experience with cloud-native database services such as Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, BigQuery, or equivalent services.
Familiarity with database replication, CDC, ETL/ELT, data pipelines, event-driven data movement, and data lake patterns.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevSecOps, secrets management, observability, and enterprise cloud landing zones.
Familiarity with IAM, network connectivity, encryption, audit logging, monitoring, and compliance controls in AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
Experience modernizing database-heavy, thick-client, batch-oriented, or integration-intensive legacy applications.
Success in the First 12 Months Improve database performance, reliability, security, and maintainability in the target cloud environment.
Build trusted partnerships across application development, architecture, QA, security, and infrastructure teams.
Ideal Candidate: A hands-on Data Architect / Database Migration Engineer who can independently assess, design, migrate, validate, optimize, and support enterprise database platforms moving from on-premises infrastructure to AWS or Google Cloud Platform while using Jira, GitLab, automation, and AI-assisted engineering tools to deliver high-quality outcomes quickly and repeatably. |
