Summary

Overview

The Senior Cloud Engineer serves as a senior technical expert responsible for designing, implementing, and managing hybrid IT environments that leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on?premises Windows Server infrastructure. This role provides strategic and hands-on engineering support for enterprise applications and critical mission needs, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise applications hosted in AWS and on?premises Windows Server environments.
  • Provide operations and maintenance (O&M) support, including patching, hardening, system upgrades, performance tuning, and routine maintenance.
  • Deliver infrastructure support during core and non-core hours, as needed, to meet mission and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including Cloud Engineers, Database Administrators, and Security Engineers-to ensure system compliance, reliability, and security.
  • Support application development, deployment, and lifecycle management activities in close coordination with internal and external stakeholder teams.
  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure proactive identification and resolution of issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, configuration standards, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify opportunities for automation and optimization within the environment and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree (4-year) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong expertise with AWS services, including but not limited to:
    • S3, EC2, ECS, RDS, VPC, CloudWatch
  • Advanced Windows Server administration experience, including installation, configuration, security hardening, patching, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and auto-scaling solutions in cloud environments.
  • Experience supporting the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and working within Agile/Scrum/Kanban frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence for work management and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues across application, network, and infrastructure layers.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, including the ability to create clear diagrams, procedures, and design artifacts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and identify and implement system and process improvements.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior team members and contributing to team capability growth is highly desirable.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions
