Role: iSeries (IBM i) RPG / COBOL Developer
Location: Remote
Hourly Rate: $55-$65 on W2 (Depends on Experience)
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced iSeries Software Developer with strong expertise in RPG and COBOL to support and enhance critical applications responsible for converting, loading, and maintaining historical pharmacy claims and Prior Authorization (PA) data.
This role is focused on application development, data conversion programming, process enhancements, and team-owned system maintenance, not hardware support or enterprise-wide outage management.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, and deploy custom RPG and COBOL conversion programs to convert and load historical pharmacy claims and PA data.
Support ongoing data extract, update, and load processes related to Prior Authorization workflows.
Perform enhancements and fixes to existing IBM i applications and batch conversion utilities.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues within team-owned programs and data pipelines.
Collaborate with business and technical partners to gather requirements and implement process improvements.
Maintain and update technical documentation for conversion logic, workflows, and team-supported applications.
Participate in system maintenance activities specifically related to the applications and programs supported by the development team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong development experience with RPG (RPG III/IV/ILE) and/or COBOL on the IBM i (iSeries/AS400) platform.
Experience writing and supporting data conversion, batch processing, and ETL-style programs.
Knowledge of DB2/400, SQL, and file/database structures.
Ability to test, validate, and deploy custom programs in a controlled production environment.
Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in handling historical and regulated data sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with pharmacy claims systems, healthcare data, or insurance-related applications.
Familiarity with Prior Authorization (PA) processes and supporting data workflows.
Knowledge of CL programming, job scheduling, and batch processing environments.
