Engineering Manager – On-Prem Platform & Automation

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a platform engineering team focused on on-prem infrastructure automation, containerization, and virtualization at enterprise scale. This role bridges physical infrastructure and cloud-native applications, enabling end-to-end automation—from bare-metal provisioning to workload delivery via APIs.

You will lead engineering efforts across global data center environments, driving reliability, scalability, and operational excellence for mission-critical platforms aligned with CNCF and modern GitOps principles.

Key Responsibilities

Platform & Workload Engineering

• Lead automation initiatives across infrastructure and workload platforms
• Drive GitOps-based infrastructure delivery and self-service capabilities
• Improve developer experience through platform APIs and automation-first design

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of SREs and DevOps engineers
• Foster a culture of collaboration, pairing, and continuous learning
• Provide technical direction and career development support

Global Platform Operations

• Own operations across enterprise data centers and distributed environments
• Support 24x7 operational model with escalation responsibility for critical incidents
• Ensure platform stability across production workloads globally

Operational Excellence

• Implement SRE best practices including SLOs, observability, and incident response automation
• Leverage tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, and ELK Stack

Platform Strategy

• Define roadmap for on-prem Kubernetes and virtualization platforms
• Ensure scalability, security, and performance of container and VM workloads

Security & Compliance

• Partner with security teams to enforce enterprise security and compliance standards

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 5+ years software engineering experience
• Strong Linux expertise across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
• 3+ years Kubernetes experience (enterprise or upstream) including OpenShift
• 3+ years experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure
• CI/CD experience with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Tekton
• Infrastructure as Code experience using Ansible and/or Terraform
• Strong coding skills in Go or Bash/Shell
• Knowledge of REST APIs and JSON-based system design

Leadership Experience

• 3+ years leading engineering, SRE, or platform teams
• Experience working in globally distributed environments
• Strong Agile and DevOps leadership mindset
• Ability to act as escalation point for production systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with OpenShift Virtualization
• Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD) or Red Hat EX280
• Strong understanding of networking, storage, and security in distributed systems
• Open-source or CNCF ecosystem contributions
• Advanced GitOps experience at enterprise scale
