Aircraft Mechanic II Location: San Antonio, TX
Contract: +6 Months
Work Hours: Variable (6:00 AM - 11:00 PM)
Shift: 1st and 2nd shifts as required by business needs
Onsite Requirement: 100% onsite
Seeking a General Mechanic (Associate) to join the team supporting aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, and structural work. This role involves working on multiple aircraft systems, interpreting technical documentation, and supporting heavy maintenance activities.
This job will have the following responsibilities: - Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components
- Maintain and repair aircraft components, flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components
- Use airframe and power plant systems to identify malfunctions and restore operational condition
- Interpret technical documentation, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals
- Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation in critical structural areas
- Locate blind holes for installation of new structural components
- Perform sealing, painting, shimming, and preservation tasks following standard repair processes
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements
- Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and structural repair
- Ascend/descend ladders, work in confined spaces, lift up to 35 lbs
- Ensure safety through Hazardous Energy and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
- Use basic hand tools in technical/mechanical tasks
- Work on aircraft exterior and interior systems including hydraulics, flight controls, monuments, landing gear, fuel systems, and engines
- Perform aircraft repair, modification, tooling operations, and related processes
- Support General Mechanics, Avionics, and Electrical teams to meet cost and schedule goals
- Pass an assessment at the end of the training cycle
Physical & Environmental Requirements - Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift ~35 lbs
- Work in noisy environments and elevated platforms
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Pass visual acuity and color perception tests
- Read, write, and comprehend English
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials
- Maintain required training certifications
- Occasional (1-3 hrs) finger manipulation
- Occasional two-person lift for items over 50 lbs
- Frequent overhead reaching (3-6 hrs)
- Frequent walking and standing on flat/uneven surfaces
- Frequent balancing on ladders, steps, or uneven surfaces
- Occasional climbing on 3-12 ft ladders or stands
- Extended periods of head/neck rotation, sitting, crawling, squatting, bending/stooping, lying down, operating foot controls
- Occasional contact with metals
- Frequent exposure to noise
Qualifications & Requirements: - Basic Qualifications (Required)
- 4+ years of experience performing the duties listed above
- Ability to work variable shifts, including scheduled/unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with C-17 aircraft
- Experience in aircraft heavy maintenance
- Ability to operate a forklift and riding-type electric powered elevating equipment
