Summary

GovCIO is seeking a Data & AI Governance Specialist to support a critical government computer system for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Data & AI Integration Team within the Software Yard - Product Delivery Service. This role is primarily responsible for establishing data readiness standards, ensuring AI/ML compliance, and coordinating data governance frameworks across platform-aligned Product Teams to enable secure, scalable AI capabilities. This position will be located in Kearneysville, WV, and will be a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

As a Data & AI Governance Specialist, you will serve as a primary operational resource for ensuring that data assets feeding platform-aligned AI/ML models are secure, trusted, ethically compliant, and optimized for mission readiness. You will maintain coordination continuity to balance rapid AI innovation with strict federal security and privacy standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • AI Data Readiness: Coordinate and synchronize data governance workflows, data preparation pipelines, and feature store cataloging to support enterprise AI/ML deployment lifecycles.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate communication acting as an operational bridge between AI/ML engineers, Data Stewards, Product Owners, and Portfolio Product Line Managers.
  • AI Compliance & Trust: Track and monitor data compliance milestones to ensure AI models and data pipelines meet federal AI directives, Responsible AI guidelines, and privacy baselines.
  • Model & Data Documentation: Organize and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage maps, model cards, and governance verification documentation for mission-critical applications.
  • Model Feedback Routing: Manage and track data quality and model drift issue resolution schedules, ensuring post-deployment feedback from operational users is routed back to product backlogs.
  • AI Data Metrics Evaluation: Monitor data quality metrics, training data integrity, and key performance baselines to help guarantee delivered AI products sustain long-term mission reliability.
  • Risk & Bias Mitigation: Proactively identify data security risks, data bias, compliance bottlenecks, or data silo constraints affecting AI rollout schedules and track remediation efforts.
  • Federal Mandates Adherence: Ensure all data and AI activities support strict adherence to DoD/DHS Data and AI Strategies, federal AI Executive Orders, and relevant government security baselines.

Qualifications

High School with 6 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Data & AI Governance: Proven experience coordinating data governance, data quality management, or AI compliance frameworks within an enterprise software development or analytics environment.
  • Lifecycle Coordination: Experience managing complex schedules involving data pipelines, data profiling, model metadata management, or user acceptance testing (UAT) for data/AI assets.
  • Agile & DevSecOps Integration: Comprehensive operational understanding of Agile methodologies, modern software delivery lifecycles (SDLC), and how data governance integrates into MLOps/DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Stakeholder Facilitation: Strong experience facilitating collaboration and maintaining continuity among multi-disciplinary AI engineering teams, Data Owners, and operational stakeholders.
  • Enterprise Tools: Proficiency tracking data assets, AI workflows, and task dependencies using enterprise tools (such as Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Collibra, or Git-based environments).
  • Data/AI Domain Foundations: Strong foundational understanding of diverse data management concepts, data architecture principles, and the fundamentals of machine learning lifecycles.

Clearance Required: Public Trust

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard, Software Yard, or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) enterprise data or AI/ML programs.

USD $65,000.00 - USD $85,000.00 /Yr.
