The R programming consultant will have a significant impact in shaping our business function by supporting adoption of the R programming language. This role will primarily be responsible for migration of SAS and VBASIC legacy programs to the R programming language, inclusive of specifications development, coding, and validation. This role will also support training and mentoring of experienced SAS users as they migrate to the R environment.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with a cross-functional team within biostatistics, data management, and analytics to transition applications written in SAS or VBASIC to R.
• Conduct code review and technical assessment of legacy programs and suitability for migration to R.
• Recode applications in SAS to R; Select appropriate R packages, functions, and algorithms to migrate legacy SAS programs to the R environment.
• Develop and maintain documentation associated with migration activities including programming specifications, validations plans, test cases, and reports.
• Support training and mentoring of experienced SAS users as they migrate to the R environment.
Your expertise:
• A master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or computer science is preferred. Other candidates with degrees in a quantitative field and advanced undergraduate or graduate-level statistical coursework will be considered.
• A minimum of 8 years in a statistical programming capacity, preferably within the medical device or biopharmaceutical industry. Candidates must have experience programming in SAS and R directed towards analysis of clinical trial data and in supporting ETL pipelines from clinical data management to biostatistics.
• Ideal candidates will have experience supporting transition of statistical analysis programs from SAS to R.
• Strong programming experience within SAS, R, and SQL is required. Experience with Python, VBASIC, and a dashboard language such as PowerBI, Qlik, or Tableau is a plus.
• Experience with modern database platforms, such as SnowFlake and Delta DataLake, is desired.

This role will report to the Senior Director of Clinical Data Management and Data Engineering within Medical Affairs.
