Job Description:

Apex Systems is currently hiring a Technical Product Owner to join a growing client in Greenwood Village, CO.

Term: Long term, open ended contract

Location: Greenwood Village, CO

Onsite Requirement: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote per week

Pay range: $60-65/hr

About the Role

We're looking for a Technical Product Owner who can bridge deep technical understanding with strong product leadership. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in backend-heavy environments, understands modern cloud-native architectures, and communicates with clarity, confidence, and influence. You'll partner closely with Java backend teams, architects, and cross-company stakeholders to drive a scalable, distributed platform forward.

What You'll Do

Own the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for complex cloud-native platforms.

Serve as the primary interface between engineering teams and external partners, customers, and cross-functional groups.

Lead requirement discussions and translate business needs into clear, actionable technical requirements.

Define and prioritize features, platform capabilities, and technical enablers based on business value and architectural impact.

Write high-quality user stories with clear functional and non-functional acceptance criteria.

Collaborate with architects and developers on microservices architecture, API design, data flows, and event-driven systems.

Support the design and evolution of distributed, microservices-based architectures.

Manage dependencies across multiple engineering teams working in an event-driven ecosystem.

Track and communicate progress, risks, metrics, and dependencies to leadership and stakeholders.

Ensure non-functional requirements-performance, availability, security, scalability, observability-are clearly defined and delivered.

Drive Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and release readiness.

Make informed trade-off decisions balancing scope, timeline, quality, risk, and technical debt.

What You Bring

5-7 years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager, with proven success in technical product ownership.

Experience working closely with backend engineering teams (Java/Spring Boot preferred).

A background in software development is a plus.

Experience with enterprise customers, system integrators, or platform/infrastructure products.

Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum and scaled Agile environments.

Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.

AWS certification is a plus.

Strong communication skills-proactive, relationship-driven, and highly effective with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business-level explanations.

Confident decision-maker with strong negotiation and expectation management skills.

Agile certifications (CSPO, SAFe POPM, SPC) are preferred.

Experience in security, compliance, or regulated environments is beneficial.

Who You Are

You're someone who thrives at the intersection of product and engineering. You build trust quickly, communicate with clarity, and bring structure to complex technical environments. You're proactive, organized, and skilled at navigating cross-team dependencies. Most importantly, you're energized by solving hard problems and enabling engineering teams to deliver exceptional products.
