Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe DevOps Architect to design,
implement, and drive DevOps transformation for mainframe environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in modern DevOps
practices, CI/CD pipelines, and IBM mainframe development tools,
enabling seamless integration between legacy systems and modern
platforms.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and implement DevOps strategy for mainframe applications.
• Design and build end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL,
and DB2 applications.
• Integrate mainframe development with distributed DevOps tools and practices.
• Automate build, test, and deployment processes using modern tooling.
• Work closely with development, QA, infrastructure, and operations teams.
• Establish best practices for version control, code quality, and
release management.
• Enable shift-left testing, automated testing, and continuous integration.
• Drive adoption of DevOps culture across mainframe teams.
• Monitor and optimize pipeline performance and reliability.
• Ensure compliance, security, and governance standards are met.
Required Skills & Expertise
Core Mainframe Skills
• Strong experience in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM
• Deep understanding of z/OS environment
DevOps & Automation
• Hands-on experience with:
• IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB)
• IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz)
• IBM Developer for z/OS Debugger (IDD)
• Jenkins
• Expertise in building CI/CD pipelines for mainframe applications
• Strong scripting skills in Groovy, Shell, Python
Version Control & Integration
• Experience with Git-based repositories (GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab)
• Knowledge of code branching strategies and release workflows
• Integration of mainframe tools with enterprise DevOps ecosystems
Testing & Quality
• Experience with automated testing tools for mainframe
• Code quality and static analysis tools integration
Cloud & Modernization (Preferred)
• Exposure to Hybrid Cloud environments (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform)
• Experience in mainframe modernization and API enablement
• Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes (good to have)
Architecture & Leadership Skills
• Define enterprise-level DevOps architecture for mainframe
• Strong experience in toolchain integration and pipeline design
• Ability to lead transformation initiatives and mentor teams
• Excellent stakeholder communication and client-facing skills
Good to Have
• Experience with tools like Endevor, Changeman, ISPW
• Knowledge of z/OS Connect, API integration
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies
