Role: Mainframe DevOps Consultant

Panvalet to Git migration must
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end SCM migration from Panvalet to Git platforms, including source extraction (COBOL, JCL, DB2), transformation, and repository onboarding.
• Design and implement the target layered architecture spanning developer tools (e.g., Visual Studio Code/IDz + Zowe Explorer/DBB/IDD), SCM, CI/CD, and mainframe execution.
• Define Git standards: branching strategy, repo structure, versioning, access controls, and governance.
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions (or Jenkins), including:
o Mainframe builds using DBB (Dependency Based Build) / Zowe CLI
o Automated deployment to z/OS environments
• Integrate modern developer tooling (Zowe CLI, Zowe Explorer, DBB YAML, GROOVY) to enable seamless mainframe development within VS Code.
• Implement DBB YAML-based build pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, and DB2 artifacts.
• Create comprehensive architecture documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Train and mentor developers, QA, and operations teams on Git workflows, CI/CD practices, and modern mainframe tooling.
• Provide troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve pipelines and developer experience.
• Act as a technical advisor to leadership and stakeholders on modernization strategy.

Required Qualifications
• 12+ years of experience in mainframe development and architecture (z/OS environment).
• Proven experience migrating from legacy SCM tools such as Panvalet, Endevor, or Changeman to Git-based platforms.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Git platforms (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket).
• Deep experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins.
• Experience implementing mainframe DevOps using DBB, Zowe CLI, and modern pipelines.
• Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, and familiarity with DB2, CICS, JES, and USS.
• Experience with code quality/security tools such as SonarQube.
• Strong scripting skills (Shell, Python, or Groovy).
