Role: Mainframe DevOps Consultant

Location: Remote

Role Summary:

·         Looking for a Mainframe DevOps Consultant to lead modernization initiatives, specifically migrating legacy SCM systems (Panvalet) to Git-based platforms

·         Strong expertise in mainframe DevOps, CI/CD, and modern tooling integration within z/OS environments is mandatory

SCM Migration & Architecture Responsibilities:

·          Lead end-to-end migration from Panvalet to Git, including source extraction (COBOL, JCL, DB2), transformation, and repository setup

·          Design and implement a layered architecture covering developer tools, SCM, CI/CD pipelines, and mainframe execution

·          Define Git standards including branching strategy, repository structure, versioning, and governance

·          Create architecture documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures

CI/CD & DevOps Implementation:

·          Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Jenkins

·          Implement mainframe build processes using DBB (Dependency Based Build) and Zowe CLI

·          Enable automated deployment to z/OS environments

·          Develop DBB YAML-based pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, and DB2 components

Developer Tools & Modernization:

·          Integrate modern development tools such as VS Code/IDz with Zowe Explorer, DBB, and IDD

·          Enable seamless mainframe development experience using Zowe CLI and modern frameworks

·          Utilize scripting languages (Shell, Python, Groovy) for automation and pipeline enhancements

Mainframe Technologies & Expertise:

·         Strong proficiency in COBOL and JCL with working knowledge of DB2, CICS, JES, and USS

·         Hands-on experience with legacy SCM tools such as Panvalet, Endevor, or Changeman

·         Experience with code quality and security tools like SonarQube

Collaboration, Training & Advisory:

·         Train and mentor development, QA, and operations teams on Git workflows and DevOps practices

·         Troubleshoot pipeline and tooling issues, ensuring continuous improvement

·         Act as a technical advisor to leadership on mainframe modernization strategies

Required Qualifications:

·         12+ years of experience in mainframe development and architecture (z/OS)

·         Proven track record of migrating legacy SCM systems to Git-based platforms

·         Strong hands-on experience with Git (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)

·         Expertise in CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins)

·         Experience implementing mainframe DevOps using DBB and Zowe CLI

·         Strong scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Groovy
