Microsoft Purview Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Work hours: morning, 9:00 AM ET to 6:00 PM ET.
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a long-term enterprise engagement. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in architecting and implementing Microsoft Purview at enterprise scale, including leading phased rollouts from pilot to full deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies across M365 workloads including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and managed endpoints. Integrate Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDCA) to extend DLP controls to SaaS and web-based applications, including restricting AI tool access to sensitive enterprise data. Develop and implement data classification schemas and auto-labeling strategies across the M365 ecosystem. Develop and tune trainable classifiers for enterprise-specific data. Deploy auto-labeling policies across historical data in both M365 and non-M365 environments. Design and implement Insider Risk Management policies, alerts, and automated workflows. Handle DLP alerts, investigations, and compliance reporting. Produce comprehensive implementation standards, support runbooks, and operational documentation to support a parallel global rollout.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in Microsoft Purview DLP across all M365 workloads (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Endpoint)
- Experience integrating Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDCA) to extend DLP controls
- Expertise in data classification, sensitivity labels, and auto-labeling strategies
- Experience developing and tuning trainable classifiers
- Experience deploying auto-labeling for historical data in M365 and non-M365 environments
- Experience designing and implementing Insider Risk Management policies and workflows
- Strong understanding of Microsoft E5/F3 + Purview Suite licensing
- Strong understanding of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams architecture
- Experience working with legal, compliance, and data governance teams
- Strong documentation skills implementation standards, runbooks, operational procedures
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical controls
