Data Engineer

YOUR ROLE
As an IT team member, you?ll play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing technology solutions that are the foundation of the world class customer service that our customers expect and deserve ? now and in the future. Qualified candidates will have proven software development skills, strong math skills, and will ideally have had some exposure to finance or accounting-related systems. Candidates will be able to immediately contribute with solid experience in system operations, development, production support and on- support, as well as have the financial acumen to quickly learn basic investing concepts. From job scheduling, data feeds, and production operations... to requirements, design, coding, interfaces, and data flows... to troubleshooting and root-cause analysis... you will be challenged to contribute.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and implement object-oriented code and scripting languages to support the interface and accounting systems
  • Implement solutions that enhance, streamline and automate the management of our IT systems
  • Assist with the configuration, implementation and maintenance of the technical environments for the current development, staging and production environments
  • Code and maintain system interfaces and extracts to handle the migration accounting information to ancillary systems
  • Develop technical and functional test plans and scripts to validate the successful design, development, and implementation of system and reporting deliverables
  • Code and support multiple in-place programs (Coordinate with project, support, and business analysts to develop functional and technical requirements, as well as translate detailed specifications into new or enhanced software solutions.)
  • Assist with performance management and load/stress testing for the interface and accounting systems, as well as create interfaces and load-scripts to ancillary financial and reporting systems
  • Manage the day-to-day operation and coordination of interface and accounting systems processes and enhancements
  • Monitor process metrics and lead process improvement efforts
  • Manage processing and enhancements for accounting feeds
  • Support the Genworth Investments functions by troubleshooting and identify root cause analysis of application problems.
  • Identify action items and make recommendations to address process and coding issues.
  • Create and maintain derivatives support knowledge base that includes technical and process documentation.
  • Some travel may be required (<15%) between Genworth\'s Richmond and Stamford locations

What you bring

  • Bachelor?s degree in computer science and/or finance or accounting
  • 2+ years minimum as Applications Developer
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, data transformations, shell scripts, JAVA scripts, etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing automated jobs
  • Good understanding of Microsoft .Net framework, C#, VB.Net or ASP.Net
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) & Agile methodologies
  • Experience in developing and/or supporting Accounting, Finance or Investments systems
  • Experience working with business users
  • Proven history of detail-oriented execution and commitment to customer Satisfaction

Additional Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience developing complex Finance, Investments, Portfolio Management and/or Capital Markets systems
  • Experience and working knowledge in Data Warehouse and ETL
  • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and methodologies
  • Experience in working with data feeds, such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, Markit, or similar
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or similar credential.
  • Java and/or Python experience a plus.
