Job Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and collaborative Data Engineering Contractor to support a critical data migration initiative within commercial lending, underwriting, and reporting functions.

This role combines technical expertise with business analysis and stakeholder engagement. The contractor will analyze legacy systems (SQL, DataStage, SAS) to identify key data elements, document current data usage, and assess downstream impacts across reporting and regulatory systems.

TOP SKILLS (Must Have)
  • 5+ years of experience with relational & non-relational databases (SQL, Snowflake, DB2, MongoDB)
  • 5+ years of experience analyzing legacy codebases (SQL, DataStage, SAS)
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or J2EE

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, and maintain scalable data management systems aligned with migration goals
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Integrate modern data technologies into existing data ecosystems
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines for mining, modeling, and production use
  • Build custom software components and analytics applications for commercial lending and risk reporting
  • Recommend improvements to enhance data reliability, quality, and performance
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery procedures

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years experience analyzing legacy code (SQL, DataStage, SAS) and documenting business logic
  • 5+ years experience with databases (SQL, Snowflake, DB2, MongoDB)
  • 3+ years experience developing backend solutions using Python, Java, or J2EE
  • 3-5 years experience building ETL/data pipelines (DataStage, dbt, or similar tools)
  • 5+ years experience in business analysis & stakeholder engagement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • 2+ years experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
  • Financial services / banking experience (commercial lending, underwriting, or regulatory reporting) is a plus
  • Agile experience is a plus
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
