Job SummaryThe Data Engineering Contractor will support a large-scale data migration initiative impacting commercial lending, underwriting, and reporting functions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, business analysis, and stakeholder collaboration.
The individual will analyze legacy systems (including SQL, DataStage, and SAS code) to identify key data attributes, document existing data usage, and evaluate downstream impacts. This position plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth transition to modernized data platforms and processes.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze legacy codebases (SQL, DataStage, SAS) to extract business logic and identify critical data elements
- Develop comprehensive inventories of current data usage across reporting and operational systems
- Assess the impact of data migration on downstream systems, reports, and regulatory processes
- Design, build, test, and maintain scalable data management solutions aligned with migration objectives
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and translate requirements into technical deliverables
- Integrate modern data management and software engineering technologies into existing environments
- Develop and optimize data pipelines supporting data ingestion, transformation, and production workloads
- Build custom software components and data solutions to support reporting and analytics needs
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance data quality, reliability, and performance
- Support disaster recovery planning and implementation for critical data assets
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience analyzing legacy code (SQL, DataStage, SAS) and documenting business logic
- At least 5 years of experience working with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL, Snowflake, DB2, MongoDB)
- 3+ years of experience developing backend solutions using programming languages such as Python, Java, or J2EE
- 3-5 years of experience building and maintaining data pipelines using ETL tools (e.g., DataStage, dbt)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business analysis, including stakeholder engagement and translating requirements into technical solutions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
- 2+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in financial services, particularly in commercial lending, underwriting, or regulatory reporting
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and delivery frameworks
