Senior DevOps Engineer (Multi-Cloud)

Contract Details

• Work Mode: Remote for candidates located more than 30 miles from Herndon, VA; hybrid (3 days/week onsite) if within 30 miles. Onsite frequency may increase based on business needs.
• Location: Herndon, VA
• Schedule: 40 hours/week
• Duration: 12 months (07/06/2026 – 07/05/2027)
• Conversion: Possible contract-to-hire after ~1 year

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead cloud architecture, automation, and reliability initiatives across multi-cloud environments. You will drive infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability, and security best practices to support scalable, high-availability private cloud workloads for enterprise applications.

In this role, you ll serve as a technical leader, mentoring engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver standardized, automated infrastructure and robust operational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain solutions on AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform with a focus on availability, scalability, and security.
• Architect standardized, reusable infrastructure patterns (templates/modules) to support private cloud deployments at scale.
• Own and enhance automated provisioning to accelerate deployments and improve reliability.
• Plan and provision environments for complex testing, performance, and release activities with dev/QA/platform teams.
• Act as escalation point for complex operational issues across app/infrastructure/network layers; drive incident reviews and corrective actions.
• Implement strategies for reliability, capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization in multi-cloud environments.
• Implement and refine monitoring/observability to proactively detect, diagnose, and resolve issues.
• Partner with security/compliance to design and maintain robust cloud security architectures and controls; champion DevSecOps.
• Design and develop advanced automation, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines with governance and quality gates.
• Produce and maintain high-quality documentation (reference architectures, runbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides) and help define team standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor s in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 7 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles.
• Proven experience deploying/managing/optimizing solutions on AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong scripting for automation and tooling (Python, Bash).
• Advanced infrastructure-as-code and configuration management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible; plus CloudFormation and/or ARM templates).
• Deep understanding of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, continuous monitoring, and incident management.
• Experience with monitoring/observability (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and logging/tracing strategies.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices (IAM, network security, encryption) and DevSecOps in CI/CD pipelines.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-team collaboration; strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional cloud certifications (e.g., AWS DevOps/Solutions Architect Professional, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Google Professional DevOps Engineer).
• Experience with SAP landscapes or Private Cloud Edition implementations.
• Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and related tooling.
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, load balancing, firewalls) in cloud/hybrid contexts.
• Experience in government/defense or other highly regulated environments; familiarity with compliance frameworks.
• Agile methodologies and cross-functional teamwork.
