Summary

A fast-growing technology-driven organization is seeking a Senior Search Engineer to lead the evolution of its enterprise search platform. This is a long-term contract role that is focused on building and scaling modern search solutions using SOLR, vector search, and cloud-native infrastructure. It's in an AWS-based environment, solving complex search and relevancy challenges at scale.

This role is ideal for an experienced Search Engineer who wants to move beyond traditional keyword search and help shape the future of semantic and hybrid search. The team is actively investing in vector embeddings and machine learning-influenced relevancy, giving you hands-on exposure to next-generation search technologies. You'll have strong influence over technical direction while still remaining deeply hands-on.

Contract Duration: 12+ Months

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience in professional software engineering
Strong Hands-on Experience with Apache SOLR (SolrCloud, collections, sharding, replication)
Background in enterprise search, relevancy tuning, and query optimization
Backend Java experience
Experience supporting production systems and participating in on-call rotation

Desired Skills & Experience

Exposure to vector search, embeddings, or semantic search techniques
Experience with Lucene, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch
Familiarity with search metrics, SLOs, dashboards, and observability
Background in modernizing or migrating legacy search platforms
Interest or experience in Machine Learning-adjacent systems
