Role: SharePoint Information Architecture & Governance Lead
Engagement Type: Direct Hire
Location: Denver, CO
Work Model: Onsite 3 days/week
Compensation: $145,000 base + 10% bonus
Job Summary
A local client of ours is on the hunt for a strategic, hands-on SharePoint Information Architecture & Governance Lead to own and drive the enterprise SharePoint and Microsoft 365 platform end-to-end.
This individual will define and execute the vision for information architecture, governance, and content strategy, while leading critical initiatives across taxonomy, permissions, lifecycle management, and Microsoft Purview.
This is a high-impact leadership role that requires both strategic ownership and deep technical execution. You will act as the single accountable owner for platform health, compliance, and optimization within a regulated, SOX-compliant environment.
Top Priorities for Success
1. Strategic Ownership of SharePoint
- Define and lead the enterprise vision for SharePoint and M365 collaboration platforms
- Serve as the single owner accountable for platform performance, direction, and outcomes
- Align platform strategy with business needs and long-term scalability
2. Governance & SOX Compliance Leadership
- Lead SharePoint governance in a regulated/public company environment
- Ensure SOX audit readiness and defensible compliance practices
- Own implementation of Microsoft Purview capabilities including:
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- Retention policies and labels
- Sensitivity labeling
- Permissions governance and access controls
3. Strong Technical & Hands-On Capability
- Actively design and build solutions-not just oversee delivery
- Develop and deploy SPFx solutions, automation, and modern SharePoint architecture
- Lead technical execution across platform enhancements and governance tooling
4. Enterprise Information Architecture Expertise
- Own enterprise taxonomy, metadata strategy, and content architecture
- Design scalable site structures, navigation, and lifecycle management processes
- Drive adoption, usability, and enterprise-wide content transformation
Key Responsibilities
Information Architecture & Content Strategy
- Design and manage the enterprise SharePoint architecture (hub/spoke, site hierarchy, content types)
- Define global taxonomy and metadata standards to improve findability and governance
- Lead large-scale content audits and remediation initiatives (ROT cleanup)
- Establish lifecycle management practices including provisioning and decommissioning
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Own governance framework including access reviews, permissions, and external sharing
- Lead enterprise-wide permissions remediation efforts
- Implement and optimize Microsoft Purview compliance solutions
- Partner with Security, Legal, and Audit teams to ensure regulatory compliance (including SOX)
- Develop governance policies, standards, and training for site owners
Technical Delivery & Development
- Architect and develop SPFx solutions using React, TypeScript, and Microsoft Graph
- Build automation using PowerShell (PnP) and provisioning frameworks
- Integrate SharePoint with Power Platform and other M365 services
- Manage code lifecycle, deployments, and DevOps processes
Platform Ownership & Optimization
- Act as the primary owner of SharePoint platform health, performance, and security
- Establish KPIs for governance adoption, compliance, and usage
- Continuously evaluate and implement improvements across the platform
Qualifications
- 7+ years of SharePoint experience in enterprise environments
- 3+ years in a senior or lead role with ownership responsibility
- Strong hands-on experience with SPFx (React, TypeScript, Microsoft Graph)
- Deep expertise in:
- Enterprise information architecture (taxonomy, metadata, content lifecycle)
- SharePoint Online governance and administration
- Proven experience with Microsoft Purview (DLP, retention, sensitivity labels, compliance)
- Experience supporting SOX audits and controls within M365 environments
- Strong experience with PnP PowerShell and automation frameworks
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale governance and transformation initiatives
