Job Summary - Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
- Creates and evaluates tool designs and coordinates with engineering for appropriate changes.
- Analyzes and designs machine holding fixtures for parts.
- Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
- Prepares geometric layout using SOLIDWORKS/MILLCAM software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
- Writes instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine.
- Write programs for multi- axis CNC milling & lathe machines.
- Set up CNC mills, lathes, grinders, or other CNC machinery according to blueprints, job orders, and tooling instructions, ensuring proper calibration and tool selection
- Input and verify CNC programs, test machine operations, and troubleshoot programming or mechanical issues
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications, perform first-piece inspections, and adjust machine settings as needed
- Conduct routine maintenance, replace worn tooling, and perform preventative maintenance to prevent production delay
- Record setup procedures, monitor production runs, and report nonconforming conditions to supervisors
- Assist or train less experienced operators, work with engineers and quality control personnel, and suggest improvements to machining methods
- Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
- Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Observes operation of programs using NC plot software to prove out tool paths.
- Initiate continuous improvement To Do list ideas, set-up time and cycle-times improvements.
- Effectively write standard operations instructions.
- Set-up and operate all CNC machines in facility.
- Mentor other operators with evaluating and resolving process issues.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Resolves CNC program and associated manufacturing issues with all relevant departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications - Strong knowledge of SOLIDWORKS/MILLCAM, parametric programming (MACROS), Solid Works & AutoCAD preferred
- Experience with Haas machines with Renishaw probing preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required
- Ability to work independently and a good memory for detail
- Strong analytical and communication skills and meticulous work habits
- Pleasant personality, must interact with all levels of personnel
- Overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing
- Read and understand internal procedures and policies
- Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Computer Skills: Strong use of new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
- Strong use of shop math skills e.g addition subtraction of whole numbers and time intervals & trigonometry.
Required Experience and Education - Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; up to 3 - 5 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
- Competence in basic arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry; ability to calculate feed rates, speeds, and dimensions
- Strong understanding of machinery setup, tool selection, and machine calibration
- Ability to troubleshoot machine issues, optimize production efficiency, and maintain quality standard
- Three years machining background required.
Base Compensation: USD 33.00 - 37.00 Paid Hourly
