Job Description
We are seeking an Electrical Technician III to join our dynamic hardware team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in electronic assembly of fine-pitch SMD and BGA components and a proven ability to build, rework, and validate next-generation prototype electronics for augmented and mixed reality platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Build, assemble, rework, and modify prototype PCBs and electronic assemblies, including 01005 SMD and 0.35 mm pitch BGA components.
- Execute prescribed functional tests, diagnose reported defects, and report findings.
- Strategically disassemble units per SOPs and perform visual inspections related to failure symptoms.
- Isolate failures through component and module exchanges and perform repairs.
- Document work performed on each unit in a thorough and consistent manner.
- Create and maintain test fixtures, wiring harnesses, and cable assemblies for prototype evaluation.
- Maintain lab equipment, manage component inventory, and uphold lab safety standards.
- Adapt to changing statements of work, prioritize multiple tasks, and communicate with design engineers for troubleshooting and feedback.
- Propose and implement process improvements to increase production efficiency.
- Use text, photos, and videos to clearly convey assembly processes with accurate grammar and detail; seek feedback for continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- AS/AA or BS in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of electronic assembly and soldering, including 01005 and 0.35 mm pitch BGA components.
- Proficiency with lab test and measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, signal generators, and LCR meters.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical datasheets, schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical assembly drawings.
Preferred Skills:
- 3+ years as an EE Technician in consumer electronics or wearable hardware prototyping.
- 5+ years in an electronics prototyping or R&D lab environment.
- Familiarity with EDA tools such as Altium Designer, Allegro, or KiCad, and experience with version control systems.
- EPTAC certifications preferred.
