Role Overview: Solution Architect
The Solution Architect is the senior-most technical authority responsible for defining, governing, and protecting the long-term architectural integrity of the ServiceNow platform. This role holds accountability for architectural decisions that directly impact financial sustainability, operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and enterprise scalability.
The Solution Architect does not merely design solutions. They determine what should be built, how it should be built, and whether it should be built at all. Acting as the architectural counterweight to delivery pressure, this role ensures the platform evolves toward a Service-Aware, outcome-driven operating model rather than accumulating unmanaged technical debt.

Strategic Purpose
The Solution Architect operates at the intersection of architecture, governance, and automation. This role ensures that speed does not compromise integrity, and that platform evolution is deliberate, disciplined, and enforceable.
By embedding governance through Policy as Code and anchoring all design decisions to CSDM-aligned service models, the Solution Architect enables sustainable enterprise value from the ServiceNow platform.

Key Responsibilities
Architectural Strategy & Platform Design

Own the end-state ServiceNow architecture, including the Service Data Fabric and service-centric operating model
Enforce strict adherence to Common Service Data Model (CSDM 5.0) standards across all domains
Define architectural principles that ensure scalability, maintainability, and platform longevity

Decision Engineering & Technical Debt Management

Lead and govern structured "Greenfield vs. Fixed” decision forums
Evaluate legacy customizations, integrations, and data models against OOB capabilities
Render binding architectural decisions that balance risk, cost, and long-term enterprise value

Policy as Code & Automated Governance

Design and implement Policy as Code using ServiceNow PaCE and GRC or IRM capabilities
Replace manual governance processes with automated, enforceable controls
Align policy automation with enterprise security, compliance, and risk requirements

Integration & Data Architecture

Architect secure, scalable integrations supporting service visibility and event correlation
Define enterprise integration standards using IntegrationHub, APIs, and event-driven patterns
Ensure performance, resiliency, and security requirements are met

Technical Governance & Quality Assurance

Chair the Technical Governance Board and approve all proposed customizations
Enforce Service-Aware architectural standards across development teams
Prevent unnecessary customization and platform misuse through proactive guidance

Required Qualifications

Extensive experience serving as a ServiceNow Solution Architect on enterprise-scale programs
Deep expertise across ITSM, ITOM, Service Mapping, CSDM, Domain Separation, and IntegrationHub
Proven ability to manage and reduce technical debt in legacy environments
Strong executive communication skills for translating architectural decisions into business impact

Preferred Qualifications

Experience implementing Service Data Fabric or service-centric operating models
Hands-on experience with Policy as Code Engine (PaCE) and GRC or IRM
Background in highly regulated industries, including financial services
ServiceNow Certified Master Architect or equivalent

Measures of Success

Reduction in technical debt and customization footprint
Measurable improvement in ServiceNow platform maturity and service visibility
Successful enforcement of governance through automated Policy as Code
Architectural decisions that enable long-term agility, resilience, and scale
