Pay Range: $66.00hr - $71.00hr
Job Overview:
The candidate will serve as a Mainframe IMS DB Tools Specialist, installing, configuring, and managing IMS environments and IBM IMS Tools, leading complex migrations, and managing database recovery, security, and parallel sysplex operations.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and manage IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.
- Install, configure, and manage IBM IMS Tools.
- Perform IMS systems programming.
- Establish policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, security, maintenance, and utilization.
- Review new versions of IMS for functionality and advise how they benefit the organization.
- Evaluate change requests and determine their impact to assigned clients.
- Conduct vendor consultations for complex problems and technical questions.
- Perform DR recovery of application objects.
- Lead and execute complex migrations to IBM IMS Tools from third-party products.
- Develop a project plan with defined phases (Planning, Conversion, Implementation, Cutover) and timelines, ensuring alignment with client objectives and internal best practices.
- Conduct customer training sessions and develop presentation materials for IMS Tools and migration processes.
Database Skills:
- Demonstrate expertise in Database Administration.
- Apply knowledge of IMS database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM.
- Utilize full function database organization types, including HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, and GSAM.
- Define and utilize LOGICAL databases.
- Manage HALDB (partitioned) structures, including PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, and PSINDEX.
- Work with Fast Path databases (DEDBs).
- Perform database design and execute related utilities.
- Execute DBD source coding and DBDGEN.
- Execute PSBGEN source coding and PSBGEN.
- Process databases using secondary indexes (PROCSEQ=).
- Apply correct usage of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking.
- Manage ACBGEN, Online Change, IMS Catalog, and IMS Management of ACBs.
- Perform database monitoring and space management.
- Generate database dataset space reporting for proactive outage avoidance.
- Resolve out-of-space conditions for VSAM database datasets immediately.
Optional Skills:
- Experience with BMC IMS Tools.
- Experience with Broadcom IMS Tools.
- Expertise in z/OS scheduling.
- Hands-on IMS DBA experience.
- Proven ability in troubleshooting and solving production database issues.
