Detailed Project Tasks:
Resident will be responsible for assisting customer with planning and perform of backup data - re-pointing and operations management of the backup environment. Principle duties include:
Environment discovery and assessment:
Review existing Avamar, Networker and Data Domain configuration, policies, schedules, retention setting and protection groups
Document current backup clients, workloads, data domains/Mtrees and replication relationships in place
Backup architecture and migration planning
Assist in defining the target backup architecture leveraging PPDM and Data Domain in the new Dell private cloud solution
Map legacy Avamar/Networker backup policies and workflows to PPDM policies and Data Domain targets
PPDM and Data Domain configuration support
Assist with configuration and validation of PDM components required to protect in-scope workloads (e.g. protection policies, schedules, SLAs retention)
Assist with configuration and tuning of Data Domain for use as a backup target (e.g. DD Boost, Mtrees, storage units, logical capacity planning, and basic replication configuration where required.
Assist with application signoff on major backup configurations changes or revision of new backup standards, for example global skip directives of database servers
Network integration and target repointing
Assist with configuring Networker to use the new Data Domain systems as backup targets, including creation and modification of DD Boost devices and storage units
Repoint in-scope Network backup jobs and client configurations from legacy Data Domain systems to new Data Domian environment, where appropriate and agreed in the migration plan.
Long term retention data migrations where applicable
Avamar/legacy backup transition support
Assist in transitioning in-scope backup workloads from Avamar to PPDM/Data Domain, as defined in the migration plan (for example, creating equivalent backup policies and enabling new backups on PPDM
