Overview
The Senior Consultant will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise supporting secure,
large-scale file transfer solutions for a federal government environment. This role focuses on the
administration, configuration, and optimization of IBM Sterling Connect:Direct on Windows and
Unix platforms, ensuring secure, reliable, and compliant data exchanges between internal systems
and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery & Operations
• Design, implement, configure, and support IBM Sterling Connect:Direct solutions on
Windows and Unix/Linux platforms.
• Manage end-to-end file transfer workflows, including process definitions, scheduling,
automation, and monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex file transfer issues related to performance, connectivity,
security, and reliability.
• Perform upgrades, patches, and configuration changes while minimizing operational risk
and downtime.
Security & Compliance
• Implement and maintain secure data transfer practices in alignment with federal security
standards and policies.
• Support encryption, authentication, certificate management, and secure network
configurations.
• Ensure file transfer solutions meet audit, compliance, and data protection requirements.
System Integration & Support
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to integrate Connect:Direct
with enterprise systems.
• Support cross-platform file transfers between distributed systems and mainframe or
enterprise environments as required.
• Monitor system health, capacity, and performance; proactively identify and address risks.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and guidance to client staff and junior team
members.
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
initiatives.
Required Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience with IBM Sterling Connect:Direct in enterprise or government
environments.
• Proven expertise supporting Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
• Experience with secure file transfer protocols, scheduling, automation, and batch
processing.
• Solid troubleshooting skills across application, OS, and network layers.
• Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience supporting federal government or large public-sector clients.
• Familiarity with broader Managed File Transfer (MFT) or B2B integration ecosystems.
• Knowledge of scripting (Shell, PowerShell, or similar) for automation and operational
support.
• Experience supporting high-availability, disaster recovery, and resiliency architectures.
Soft Skills
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within a larger program team.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability, security, and operational excellence.
