Position: Software Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to support an Internal Research and Development initiative focused on delivering advanced, multi-domain mission solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with a cross-functional engineering team to translate system requirements into high-performance software capabilities and algorithms. Many solutions will involve complex, mathematics- and physics-intensive implementations that directly influence system performance.
You will contribute throughout the full development lifecycle, including requirements reviews, capability design, implementation, and test case evaluation.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement novel C++ applications in a research-focused environment.
Analyze and interpret system requirements to create new algorithms and software capabilities.
Work with complex, physics- and mathematics-driven models central to system performance.
Participate in code reviews, requirement reviews, and test case assessments.
Collaborate in a closed area, on-site engineering environment.
Support integration, test, troubleshooting, and refinement of developed capabilities.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience
OR Master's degree with 3+ years of experience
OR PhD with 1+ year of experience
Recent and extensive experience developing software in C++, with emphasis on new application development
Experience with MATLAB and/or Python
Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems
Ability to work full-time in an in-person, closed-area environment
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced proficiency with Linux, shell scripting, and system operations
Experience with automated software requirements testing and analysis
Background in battle management, fire control systems, or related mission systems
Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Familiarity with Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and tools like Gherkin or Cucumber
Experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools (e.g., Coverity, Fortify, SonarQube)
Experience developing software within a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and DevSecOps tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins)
Strong background in mathematics and physics
Advanced degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science
