Summary

Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something - you'll add something.

Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with your physical space. It will allow us to do the things we love in ways never before possible - all while staying connected to the people around us.

Description

As a Product Design Engineer on this team, you will be given ownership over the mechanical design of specific parts or modules within the product and will be responsible for the design, analysis, assembly, and reliability of these parts. This role spans the entire spectrum of product design development: concept development, prototyping and testing, CAD and FEA analysis, detailed design, drafting, DOE development, testing, manufacturing and quality analysis. This role will also have a significant focus on softgoods parts and human ergonomics, so experience in these areas is preferred.

This work is undertaken in our offices, our labs and workshops and in partnership with our vendors, where you will be working in-region in the manufacturing facilities. Excellent communication skills including preparing slide presentations and participating in working meetings are critical. Experience working and driving actions in Asian manufacturing facilities, especially high-volume mass production, will be highly valuable.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

5+ years of hands-on, detailed product design experience

Strong analytical skills with regard to mechanical engineering theory

Experience in softgoods product design (materials, manufacturing techniques)

Experience working in technical project groups in a professional environment

Proficiency in 3D CAD (any modelling package)

Basic GD&T knowledge and experience releasing 2D drawings

Proficiency in performing tolerance analyses

Working knowledge of FEA principles

Practical experience working through DFM challenges with external vendors

Wide knowledge of basic engineering materials and manufacturing processes

Experience with vendor FAI/CPK dimensional reports

Consumer electronics knowledge in a majority of these disciplines: industrial design, optics and lenses, cameras, sensors, displays, PCBs and flexes, silicon, antennas, batteries, thermals

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including emails, preparing slide presentations, and presenting technical concepts to multi-disciplinary teams

Creative problem solving, with experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation

Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities, specifically in high-volume mass production

Travel will be 10-25% and you must be willing to move to the Bay Area.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in ergonomics and human factors a plus

Experience in virtual / augmented reality consumer electronic devices
