As the Chemical Process Engineer, you will own the technical and economic performance of an assigned process unit, driving improvements in quality, cost, safety, emissions, and capacity while helping scale new products from development into full production. The client is known for investing in both the personal and professional side of its people, offering a modern team culture, a focus on work/life balance, and real exposure and growth over the course of a career.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor daily unit operations and serve as the technical resource for your assigned unit.
  • Pinpoint opportunities to raise quality, cut costs, strengthen safety, and reduce emissions, then present data-backed recommendations to the unit team.
  • Design and run trials of proposed operating changes, analyzing results to boost product quality, increase throughput, or lower operating expense.
  • Evaluate the technical and financial viability of new technologies, safety and operability recommendations, and planned capacity expansions.
  • Partner with the unit team on the annual control budget, operating reviews, and economic studies of proposed programs.
  • Support PSM/RMP and other regulatory compliance programs, and investigate production, safety, environmental, and quality incidents.
  • Engineer and document chemical processes for improved products, selecting the equipment and control devices needed to scale them from development to production.
  • Deliver technical support for existing equipment, troubleshooting and designing upgrades that make operations more efficient and cost-effective.
  • Author operating procedures and train staff on the safe use of new equipment.
  • Lead selected projects through planning, coordination, and progress reporting, and supervise technicians as needed.
  • Coordinate engineering and production to maximize equipment uptime and product quality in a safe, environmentally responsible manner.
  • Drive engineering and maintenance cost-savings initiatives, keeping material, labor, and repair spending within budget.
  • Specify and help purchase equipment, working with outside contractors on installation to keep design changes on schedule and on budget.
  • Contribute to equipment design and operation that minimizes environmental releases and meets regulatory agency requirements.
  • Track emerging technologies and report on those relevant to the business.
  • Build deep knowledge of the chemical, physical, and safe-handling properties of materials used in your area.

What You Bring

  • Chemical Process Engineering experience in manufacturing, petrochemicals, or a similar environment (required)
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Program (RMP), Process Optimization, Process Scale-Up, Equipment Selection, Process Control, and Troubleshooting
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multinational, cross-cultural work environment
  • Strong communication skills for regular interaction with engineers, managers, and plant leadership
  • Dependable, punctual attendance, which is an essential function of the role
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., move freely around the plant, climb stairs multiple times per shift, and work 12-hour shifts
  • Good hearing and sense of smell, and the ability to perform in a potentially high-pressure setting
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship

Preferred:

  • 10+ years as a Process Engineer in a chemical or petroleum manufacturing environment (strongly desired)
