Job Description

The Security Engineer will be the technical lead for WIDS deployment and integration across data center sites. The role's primary focus is ensuring WIDS infrastructure, sensors, rack equipment, network connectivity, software platforms, and operational workflows are designed, installed, configured, tested, and transitioned into service correctly. This person will work directly with the WIDS vendor to drive system improvements, enhance detection quality, tune performance, and develop scalable technical solutions for future site deployments. They will partner with construction, network, security operations, vendors, and site teams to resolve technical issues, validate system performance, and maintain a scalable, supportable WIDS program.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical lead for Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) deployment, integration, and operational readiness across data center sites.
  • Develop technical designs, deployment standards, implementation plans, and acceptance criteria for WIDS infrastructure.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and testing of WIDS sensors, rack-mounted equipment, network connectivity, supporting software, and management platforms.
  • Partner with construction, network engineering, physical security, security operations, site operations, and vendor teams to coordinate deployment activities and resolve technical dependencies.
  • Work directly with the WIDS vendor to troubleshoot issues, improve system capabilities, enhance detection quality, and optimize platform performance.
  • Configure and tune detection policies, alert thresholds, sensor placement, and system settings to reduce false positives and improve coverage.
  • Validate system performance through coverage testing, functional testing, alert verification, and operational acceptance testing.
  • Lead technical issue resolution during site deployment, commissioning, and transition into production service.
  • Develop repeatable deployment architectures, configuration standards, test procedures, runbooks, and operational workflows that support expansion to future sites.
  • Ensure WIDS solutions are scalable, supportable, resilient, and aligned with applicable security, network, and data center standards.
  • Define monitoring, maintenance, escalation, and incident-response processes in partnership with security operations and site support teams.
  • Track technical risks, defects, dependencies, and remediation activities throughout the deployment lifecycle.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to operations, engineering, and support teams.
  • Evaluate system data and operational feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing, deploying, integrating, or supporting security technologies in enterprise, critical-infrastructure, or data center environments.
  • Strong understanding of wireless networking concepts, including IEEE 802.11 standards, radio-frequency fundamentals, wireless coverage, interference, and common wireless threats.
  • Experience with wireless intrusion detection or prevention systems, network monitoring platforms, or comparable security detection technologies.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, network segmentation, and secure connectivity.
  • Experience installing or supporting rack-mounted equipment, sensors, appliances, and associated data center infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical deployments involving multiple engineering, construction, operations, and vendor teams.
  • Experience developing test plans, validating system performance, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and documenting results.
  • Ability to analyze alerts and system data, tune detection logic, and balance detection effectiveness with false-positive reduction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements and risks to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, operating procedures, test scripts, and support runbooks.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to data center or deployment sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced experience deploying WIDS or Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS) technologies across multiple enterprise or data center locations.
  • Experience with large-scale, multi-site security infrastructure programs and standardized site deployment models.
  • Familiarity with wireless site surveys, spectrum analysis, RF design, sensor-placement methodology, and coverage-validation tools.
  • Experience integrating security platforms with SIEM, SOAR, ticketing, asset-management, monitoring, or incident-response systems.
  • Knowledge of security operations, alert triage, incident escalation, and threat-detection engineering practices.
  • Experience managing vendor performance, product defects, feature requests, and technical roadmaps.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation, scripting, APIs, configuration management, or deployment orchestration.
  • Experience working in highly regulated, high-availability, or critical-infrastructure environments.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, Security+, CCNA, CWNA, CWSP, or comparable networking, wireless, or cybersecurity credentials.
