Our client is seeking a Senior Systems Analyst in Durham, NC.
Role Description
The Senior System Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert in defining, analyzing, and validating processes within the Policy Administration System (FAST). They will be responsible for creating detailed system requirement tickets and collaborating with developers, testers, and business stakeholders to ensure successful execution across all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC). The Application Services team supports the Policy Administration platform along with other configurable systems, including customer relationship management, data transport, and document generation services.
Analyze insurance system components, recommend modernization strategies, and implement improvements.
Conduct requirement analysis for annuity product changes, and coordinate with application configurator to design and develop insurance products.
Collaborate with the application vendor to identify required changes and document/design the implementation plan.
Analyze data feeds, diagnose the root cause of issues, and resolve problems related to application data.
Work closely with application developers and product owners across teams to implement product solutions.
Serve as the expert and primary point of contact for production issues impacting your system(s).
Perform defect analysis and propose system enhancements.
Maintain high-quality documentation.
Assist in functional testing of production systems to answer queries from end users.
Create training materials (SOPs) and assist end users with new functionality.
Create process flows and for business procedures and assess potential enhancements.
Maintain high quality documentation for system updates.
Investigate system issues
Understand system interactions
Work closely with operations to diagnose problems
Provide clear, technically informed details to the development team
Convert business requirements into system interpretation
No hands-on coding, no direct enhancements
APIs (how they work, how systems interact)
Databases - Postgres preferred, SQL accepted
Basic understanding of Java, JavaScript, scripting languages (not hands-on development)
Modern enterprise systems / technical ecosystems
Skills & Requirements
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in computer information systems and technologies
6+ years of progressive experience in system and data analysis, and understanding of database and application components, including web services.
2+ years of experience with an insurance administrative platform
Experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions
Critical thinking and decision making in uncertainty
Strong verbal and written communications.
Strong interpersonal relations, management, and supervisory skills.
Strong background in the support of applications used in the insurance domain.
Ability to thrive under pressure and manage concurrent and conflicting priorities and deadlines.
Organize, prioritize, and track tasks, requests, and projects effectively.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive, productive relationships
Systems Analyst background - must have experience translating business requirements into system-level requirements.
Policy Administration experience (this is critical):
Ideally Life & Annuities policy admin
But P&C, Auto, Health, or any insurance sector is acceptable to widen the pool
Strong understanding of system behavior & features - able to investigate issues within the system.
