MSSQL Database Engineer/DBA 100% Remote
Job Description
As an MSSQL Database Engineer (DBA you will plan, coordinate and administer database functions, documentation, upgrades, lifecycle, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and data protection. In this role, you will regularly work with Micron's Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. You will maintain operational excellence in multiple world-class Data Center environments, both on prem and cloud, with published standards and compliances.
Qualifications / Experience:
- A minimum of 8+ years of overall experience in IT MSSQL Database Domain (On Prem and cloud) with proven experience in Database Operations.
- Strong proficiency in MSSQL database management with 2019 and 2022 versions of MSSQL
- Solid understanding on installing, configuring and troubleshooting MSSQL server, specifically Always ON Availability Groups, Replication, Clustering.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Test and validate backups to guarantee recoverability in case of failures with DR experience
- Knowledge of Cloud services, preferably Azure and AWS
- Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.
- Experience in designing and automating repetitive processes to streamline service and ensure consistency.
- Good hands-on PowerShell scripting and automation

- Understanding and alignment of ITIL change and incident management processes.

Education
B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, other technical disciplines, or equivalent work experience.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Provision MSSQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations with replication, Azure & AWS database support.
- Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
- Handle common database administration and maintenance such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
- Monitor overall health of databases and provide timely resolution and root cause analysis for incidents to prevent issues.
- Profile server resource usage, capacity management, optimization and enhanced structure
- Partner with other infrastructure team members and user customers.
- Partner with multi-functional application teams to design efficient and scalable database structure throughout development, testing and deployment to production.
- Investigate and fix database-related issues, including connectivity problems, performance degradation, and data inconsistencies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to developers and end-users.
- Prepare SOE and Runbook documentations, specifications and refine processes to support dynamic environments.
- Participate in setting objectives, strategies, plans, programs, performance standards/measures and procedures.
- Follow SOX compliances
- Drive innovation and automation of database resiliency.
- Contribute to IT project execution.
- Collaborate with IT Operations Managers to continually improve operations through routine monitoring of system performance metrics, review system log files, trend analysis, configuration, incident, release and problem management ITIL processes
- Require working in 8/5 shift support and weekend rotational On-Call support in collaboration with global DBA teams.
