Our Department delivers applied systems and mission engineering support to NORAD, USNORTHCOM, and subordinate commands. The department emphasizes collaboration and mission-focused solutions to support homeland defense and security operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with a small team on real engineering and/or data science projects, helping with tasks like collecting data, running simple tests, and organizing results.
- Take part in an 8-10-week hands-on learning program that introduces core engineering principles and basic data science tools beyond what you learn in school.
- Practice explaining your work in simple terms, both in writing and in group discussions or short presentations.
- Ask questions, try new ideas, and actively look for chances to turn what you learn in the classroom into practical solutions for real-world problems.
Basic Qualifications:
- Sustained excellence in academic performance
- Currently in high school and taking STEM classes (such as engineering, computer science, or advanced math/science), with a strong interest in technology and problem-solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain ideas and write about what you learned or built.
- Demonstrated interest in serving the public
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completed or currently enrolled in advanced math courses (such as Calculus I or higher) and an introductory or Fundamentals of Engineering Design course.
