Summary

An innovative, cloud-first technology organization is seeking a senior engineering professional to establish and evolve its engineering cost management capability. This is a highly influential individual contributor opportunity where you'll combine deep infrastructure expertise with financial insight to create the technical foundations that enable engineering teams to understand, manage, and optimize cloud and platform spending at scale.

Rather than joining an existing FinOps practice, you'll be instrumental in shaping one. Working across Platform Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and technical leadership, you'll develop the systems, automation, and governance needed to transform engineering spend into meaningful operational data. This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical background who has previously played a significant role in introducing, driving, or maturing FinOps practices within an engineering organization-not simply consuming existing reporting, but helping define how engineering cost management operates.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Engineering, with expert-level knowledge of AWS or another large-scale public cloud environment.
  • Demonstrated experience acting as a key contributor, technical champion, or founding voice in the adoption and implementation of FinOps practices, including influencing engineering teams, establishing cost accountability, and embedding cost-conscious engineering principles into day-to-day operations.
  • Proven ability to build technical solutions that improve financial visibility across engineering environments, including automation, telemetry, tagging strategies, reporting, cost attribution, and scalable data models that support engineering and business decision-making.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience designing service costing methodologies such as showback, chargeback, unit economics, or cost allocation frameworks for shared engineering platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud financial management platforms including CloudZero, CloudHealth, Apptio, or comparable FinOps tooling.
  • Experience partnering with Finance and Procurement on forecasting, software and infrastructure vendor analysis, commercial optimization, capacity planning, and governance of engineering-controlled technology investments.

Daily Responsibilities
  • Hands-On Engineering: 65%
  • Team Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work: 35%
