Location: Hybrid - Open to candidates local to Merrifield, VA; Vienna, VA; Winchester, VA; or Pensacola, FL
Assignment Type: Contract Only
Duration: 1 year (Potential for extension)
Role Overview:We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Data Risk Analyst to support enterprise data risk and governance initiatives. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to data classification, privacy, quality, usage, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate enjoys working with structured processes, complex datasets, and documentation that must stand up to audit and regulatory scrutiny.
Key Responsibilities:- Support assigned data risk and governance activities aligned to established procedures
- Collaborate with business and technology partners to identify data risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Assist in maintaining data governance policies, standards, controls, and documentation
- Monitor compliance with internal data policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA)
- Analyze data and produce dashboards, scorecards, and executive-level summaries using BI tools
- Participate in data incident investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation tracking
- Maintain data risk registers, control gap logs, and evidence repositories
- Support data quality monitoring, validation rules, issue tracking, and remediation workflows
- Document data lineage, critical data elements, and key controls across systems
- Assist with risk assessments, audits, and control testing activities
- Stay current on emerging data risk trends, regulatory changes, and best practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement of data risk and governance processes
Qualifications:- 3+ years of experience in data analytics, data governance, data quality, risk management, consulting, or project support
- Hands-on experience building dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools
- Comfortable working with large datasets and producing repeatable, accurate reporting
- Strong documentation skills with keen attention to formatting, accuracy, and version control
- Ability to work independently once objectives and standards are defined
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into business context
- Ability to sustain detail-intensive, repetitive work without loss of quality
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Preferred:
- Experience in financial services or other regulated environments
- Familiarity with data governance concepts such as critical data elements, data ownership, and data controls
- Experience with ServiceNow, GRC platforms, or data catalog tools
- Exposure to application rationalization, decommissioning, or migration efforts
Compensation and Benefits:The pay rate for this position is between $30.00 and $40.00 per hour. Please note that the final rate may be contingent on experience, location, and other factors.
