Job Description:

Database Administrator I or II

Remote (Central Time Zone required; KS/MO preferred).

Position Summary:

The Database Administrator (DBA) will support a highly complex, enterprise SQL Server environment within on of a large health system local to Kansas City, MO. This is a hands-on, operations-heavy role supporting mission-critical systems tied directly to clinical workflows.

The team operates as a centralized database service supporting application, infrastructure, and analytics teams. This role requires a highly capable DBA who can contribute immediately, with minimal ramp time, in a 24/7 production environment.

They are prioritizing candidates who can hit the ground running-the team is not looking to upskill junior talent due to the cost and impact of delayed productivity.

Key Environment Details:

- 250+ SQL Server instances and 5,000+ databases

- Hybrid environment: on-prem + Azure SQL

- Active migration from legacy SQL versions

- 24/7 operational model supporting clinical systems

Responsibilities:

- Provide day-to-day operational support across SQL Server environments

- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation supporting Priority I/II incidents

- Troubleshoot performance issues

- Perform installations, patching, upgrades, and migrations

- Build and configure new instances

- Partner with application and data teams on production issues

- Monitor alerts, replication, and system health

- Execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes

- Maintain scripts, automation, and processes

- Document changes per change control policies

Required Experience:

- 3-5+ years SQL Server DBA experience

- Strong T-SQL, performance tuning, backup/recovery skills

- Experience supporting production environments

Preferred Experience:

- Enterprise-scale environments

- Always On / clustering

- Azure SQL / hybrid cloud

- Infrastructure exposure (servers, storage, networking)

- Healthcare environment experience
