Summary

Description

Samtec is expanding its global IoT and SCADA engineering team to support a rapidly growing number of machine integrations across our manufacturing sites. This position sits in Wilsonville, Oregon. This team builds and maintains the SCADA/HMI systems that provide real-time visibility into our manufacturing equipment and process data. This position will report to the Product Manager for the team assigned. The team consists of a Product Manager, Product Owner, Solution Architect, UX Designer, Software Engineers and possibly a Quality Assurance Specialist. Seeking a hybrid IoT Software Engineer who can support our current Ignition-based architecture while helping drive a major transformation toward a modern, MQTT-driven integration layer and cloud-based data ecosystem. This role blends SCADA engineering, software development, and hands-on manufacturing engagement. It's ideal for someone excited to work at the edge-collecting, stitching, and delivering machine data that powers smarter manufacturing decisions. Key Responsibilities SCADA & Machine Integration Develop, maintain, and enhance SCADA/HMI solutions using Ignition (Inductive Automation) or similar platforms (Wonderware, etc.). "We use Ignition... to build those machine integration layers and HMIs." Integrate new manufacturing equipment using industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, TCP/IP, and others. Support and refactor existing integrations, addressing technical debt as we transition to a new architecture. IoT & Edge Data Engineering Work with edge devices to collect, normalize, and publish machine data. "I want to be able to have a device on the edge that's getting data... and stitching it together." Implement and support MQTT-based data ingestion pipelines. Push machine data into cloud storage (S3, time-series databases) and into the live MES system. Software Development Build microservices and APIs to distribute machine data across internal systems. "...learning how to deal with API calls, microservices and getting that data published out..." Work with modern development stacks such as C#, Angular, and Microsoft-based technologies. Work with non-relational/document databases and time-series data stores. Manufacturing & Stakeholder Collaboration Partner with process, quality, and product engineers to understand data needs and manufacturing workflows. Translate machine data into actionable information for production teams. "They're trying to answer questions on the production floor... having context around that data really helps." Periodically visit and support all three manufacturing sites (hybrid/onsite role).
