Duration: 12+ Months Contract
Pay Range: $60-$65/hour on W2
Job ID: 176852
Job Overview: The clients Quality team is seeking an experienced Early Field Failure Analysis Engineer to conduct detailed root cause analysis on device failures. In this role, you will perform failure analysis on high-volume, technically complex consumer products such as smart glasses and virtual reality headsets. Leveraging your diagnostic skills and utilizing a wide array of failure analysis techniques, you will isolate the root cause of hardware failures. You will also communicate findings and recommendations to a highly cross-functional team to drive improvements in the quality of current and future products.
To succeed in this role, you must have a passion for failure analysis, fault isolation, and troubleshooting. You should possess a strong curiosity for understanding failures at a symptom level and dive deeper towards the root cause through robust failure analysis techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities: - Perform engineering-level failure analysis.
- Own the end-to-end failure analysis process, from failure replication at the system level to failure isolation at the module and component level.
- Investigate components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes to identify root causes of product failures.
- Identify and address hardware design risks, assembly escapes, poor module quality, and software/firmware issues affecting product performance and reliability.
- Generate test scenarios and collect data to isolate failure modes.
- Collaborate with internal teams (mechanical, electrical, quality, software engineering) and external vendors.
- Provide inputs to design and process teams to improve design quality and production yield through lessons learned and developmental system tear-downs.
- Participate in failure analysis for potential field safety escalations.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, audio testers, thermal cameras, and microscopes to characterize failures.
- Organize and manage lab space, including testing areas, assembly areas, and other project workspaces.
- Manage and report progress of devices under triage.
Qualifications: - BS in Engineering with experience in failure analysis and/or product engineering.
- Knowledge of debugging hardware failures and identifying root causes in consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive, or medical device products.
- Experience using various failure analysis techniques and equipment, with critical debugging skills at the system, board, and component levels.
- High attention to detail, hands-on, and self-motivated.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance.
- Familiarity with diagnostic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and other standard lab tools (e.g., microscopes, hand soldering tools).
- Experience articulating engineering solutions to both technical and non-technical cross-functional teams.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with high-volume consumer electronics products.
