Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Principal Network Engineer to join our team in Albany, New York. The ideal candidate will have proven hands-on experience in network engineering, a deep understanding of networking protocols, and the ability to manage and troubleshoot complex network systems. This is a full-time, onsite position requiring availability for on-call support after hours.
Responsibilities: - Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
- Monitor performance to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company's security team.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with security configuration standards.
- Design and deploy changes to client configurations as per the applicable change management process.
- Proactively handle all network security solutions.
- Perform firmware upgrades on routers, switches, WLCs, and firewalls.
- Utilize testing and diagnostic tools to assess and modify equipment.
- Use enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and Splunk.
- Open vendor support cases, including Cisco, Palo Alto, and other third-party vendors.
- Investigate network performance issues using tools like Wireshark.
- Perform hardware decommission and disposal following company policy and guidelines.
- Update vision diagrams for multiple sites based on CMDB reports.
- Support offshore team upgrades and troubleshooting sessions as required.
Qualifications: - Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
- CCNP or higher certification (Wireless and SDWAN knowledge is an added advantage).
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11).
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
- University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Comprehensive understanding of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, BGP, and EIGRP.
- In-depth knowledge of networking systems such as LAN, firewalls, routers, and WLCs.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure efficient operation.
- Ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi and security infrastructure.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical team members.
