Rapid Response Team (RRT) Data Center Technician - Networking & Deployment Focus

Role Overview

The Rapid Response Team (RRT) Data Center Technician supports large-scale, high-velocity deployments in enterprise and hyperscale data center environments. This role is heavily focused on Layer 1 networking, physical deployment, rack & stack execution, cabling quality control, and post-deployment troubleshooting.
RRT members work alongside internal teams and strategic partners to deploy and operationalize networking and compute infrastructure at scale. Success in this role requires strong physical endurance, disciplined execution, adaptability, and a team-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Data Center Deployment & Operations

  • Perform rack and stack activities following industry-standard procedures, including:
    • RU measurement and rack layout planning
    • Installation of rack rails and guides
    • Sequential installation of networking and compute equipment
  • Execute large-scale physical deployments, including:
    • Unboxing, palletizing, staging, and moving hardware
    • Loading and placing equipment into racks

Networking & Cabling Support (Layer 1 Focus)

  • Perform cabling quality control, including:
    • Identifying and correcting poor cable routing, labeling, or dressing
    • Understanding differences between fiber and copper cabling
    • Recognizing proper use of single-mode vs. multi-mode fiber
  • Partner with third-party vendors responsible for cabling while maintaining established quality standards.

Burn Down, Troubleshooting & Break/Fix

  • Participate in the burn down process following deployments:
    • Troubleshoot connectivity issues
    • Validate links and physical network integrity
  • Perform ongoing break/fix and maintenance once equipment is in production, within defined scope.

Team Integration & Standards

  • Work alongside deployment, networking, and operations teams to support project objectives.
  • Perform the same tasks as internal team members while maintaining consistent quality and pace.
  • Follow strict procedures and standards and adjust quickly based on feedback.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Operate in data centers and warehouse environments, depending on project needs.
  • Walk 5-6 miles per shift in large facilities.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout long shifts.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in large-scale data center environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Rack & stack deployments
    • Physical networking devices and cabling
    • Fiber optics fundamentals (single-mode vs. multi-mode)
  • Strong understanding of Layer 1 networking concepts.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot physical connectivity issues.
  • Experience working in physically demanding roles within data centers.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple work environments (data centers, warehouses).

Note: Depth and quality of experience matter more than years alone. Candidates must demonstrate real hands-on capability, not just exposure.

Top 3 Priority Skills (What Matters Most)

1. Layer 1 Networking & Physical Deployment Expertise

  • Hands-on experience with networking devices, cabling, and rack & stack processes.
  • Ability to identify and resolve physical connectivity issues.
  • Comfort with fiber optics fundamentals and cabling standards.

2. Physical Endurance & Data Center Readiness

  • Proven ability to perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Experience walking large facilities, lifting equipment, and executing high-volume deployments.
  • Comfortable performing both skilled and routine tasks as required.

3. Teamwork, Flexibility & Adaptability

  • Willingness to follow strict procedures and accept feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to support operational needs wherever required.

Nice to Have
