Summary

Job Title: Structural Engineer

Job Summary: Seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to manage project layout, design, and production of construction drawings and documents across multiple concurrent projects in estimating, construction, and closeout phases. The role requires technical leadership, coordination with design and construction teams, and occasional fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage structural design projects for industrial, commercial, and manufacturing clients.
  • Develop and oversee structural design plans (steel, CMU, reinforced concrete, and other systems).
  • Prepare calculations, structural drawings, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Perform forensic investigations and prepare findings/recommendations.
  • Coordinate with architects, planners, surveyors, permitting authorities, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Review, sign, and seal plans to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Support project scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and task delegation.
  • Participate in client meetings, present technical solutions, and assist with proposal development.
  • Produce preliminary designs, material take-offs, and fabrication/cost estimates for design-build and fabrication projects.
  • Conduct field investigations, site surveys, and construction inspections as required.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina, or eligible for NC registration by reciprocity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s with structural concentration considered if the candidate will obtain licensure within two years.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in structural engineering for construction, preferably with agricultural, commercial, or industrial projects.
  • Experience with estimating and project management (3+ years preferred).
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software, CAD/Revit, and standard engineering office tools.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work performed in both office and construction site environments.
  • Fieldwork may include exposure to noise, dust, weather, and navigating/climbing on construction sites.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections that require walking, standing, and moderate physical activity for extended periods.

Preferred

  • Experience with design-build and fabrication workflows.
  • Familiarity with local permitting processes and contractor coordination.
