Description:

    Position: Tool Engineer

    Location: El Segundo, CA

    About the Role

    We are seeking a motivated Tooling Design Engineer to join a high-performing team focused on solving complex engineering challenges across advanced technology domains. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of industrial tooling solutions that enable efficient and high-quality manufacturing processes. You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborate across cross-functional teams, and play a key role in delivering innovative, practical solutions.

    What You'll Do

    Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs

    Design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill and assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments, and related equipment

    Create detailed engineering drawings, inspection criteria, and verification plans

    Collaborate with tool designers and engineering teams to finalize designs

    Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function

    Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication

    Partner with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and engineering teams to meet quality, cost, and delivery goals

    Support fabrication activities and inspect tooling for compliance with design requirements

    Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement innovative design/process solutions

    Safety, Process, and Quality

    Design tooling solutions with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and compliance

    Identify and mitigate risks in accordance with applicable standards and best practices

    Support root cause investigations, non-conformance analysis, and process improvements

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline

    Experience with CAD tools such as NX or CATIA

    Understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and machine shop practices

    Knowledge of engineering drawing standards including GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

    Ability to evaluate drawing completeness, accuracy, materials, and manufacturability

    Familiarity with weld symbols and related drafting standards

    Strong communication, organization, and project management skills

    High attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in aerospace or advanced manufacturing environments

    Background in tooling design, fabrication, and support equipment development

    Experience working with external vendors and evaluating manufacturing capabilities

    Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems

    Experience developing tooling statements of work (SOW) and cost estimates

    Knowledge of stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)

    Professional Engineering (PE) license (or progress toward certification)
