job summary:

Join our team supporting the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as a Senior Linux/Unix Systems Engineer. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical authority for the agency's Linux platform, driving platform modernization, security hardening, and enterprise automation across RHEL and Oracle Linux environments.

responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the architectural design, maintenance, and lifecycle upgrades (RHEL 7/8/9) of enterprise Linux environments.
• Develop automated workflows and patch management strategies using Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat Satellite.
• Ensure security compliance with CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs, and NIST SP 800-53 standards.
• Serve as the senior escalation point for Tier 3 incident resolution, root cause analysis, and platform optimization.

qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

U.S. Citizenship and eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience) and 8+ years of progressive Linux engineering experience.

Active Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification.

3+ years of experience with Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, Bash/Python scripting, and Git version control.

Proven experience applying federal security standards (DISA STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, FISMA/NIST).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or cloud certifications (AWS / Azure).

Hands-on experience migrating on-premises Linux workloads into cloud environments.

Experience with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
