Our client is seeking an experienced Cloud / Platform Architect to lead the architecture and platform transformation of a large-scale building management (IoT) solution. The existing application is a monolithic platform tightly coupled with AWS services. The objective is to assess the current architecture and define a more modular, scalable, resilient, and infrastructure-portable target architecture, with the likely target environment being an on-premises/private cloud platform.
This role is primarily focused on cloud, infrastructure, platform, Kubernetes, and solution architecture. Application code modernization and redevelopment are not the primary scope. The architect will serve as the primary architecture lead in the U.S., working closely with the customer and coordinating with our client's India-based DevOps, Kubernetes, Platform Engineering, and Project Management teams.
Engagement Phases:
Phase 1, Discovery and Architecture Assessment: assess the current application, AWS architecture, infrastructure, integrations, dependencies, and operational model; identify AWS-native services and architectural dependencies creating platform lock-in; evaluate scalability, availability, performance, security, networking, storage, observability, and operational requirements; conduct architecture workshops with customer teams; document current-state architecture, constraints, risks, and decision points; develop target-state architecture principles and a transformation roadmap.
Phase 2, Reference Architecture and Engineering: design the target reference architecture for deployment primarily on-premises/private cloud; define the Kubernetes/container platform architecture and supporting platform services; establish patterns to replace or abstract AWS-specific capabilities; define compute, networking, storage, load balancing, ingress, identity, secrets management, observability, logging, and security architecture; define scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, and resilience patterns; develop deployment and environment architecture across dev/test/staging/production; define CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and platform automation patterns; work with engineering teams to validate a reference implementation; produce architecture standards, decision records, diagrams, implementation guidance, and a roadmap for the build phase.
Required Experience:
10+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, platform, or solution architecture roles. Strong AWS architecture experience. Strong understanding of Kubernetes and container platforms. Experience designing for on-premises, private cloud, hybrid cloud, or cloud-independent environments. Strong understanding of compute/virtualization, networking and load balancing, storage, identity and access management, secrets and certificate management, logging/monitoring/observability, high availability and disaster recovery, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD. Experience assessing complex monolithic applications and identifying infrastructure/platform dependencies. Strong customer-facing consulting and workshop facilitation skills. Ability to work with geographically distributed engineering teams.
Preferred Experience:
Experience migrating or re-platforming applications from public cloud to private cloud or on-premises. Experience with VMware/VCF, OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu, or similar platforms. Experience with building management, IoT, industrial, energy-management, or operational technology platforms. Familiarity with microservices and distributed application architecture. Experience leading engagements from assessment through reference architecture through implementation.
