This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoW and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoW.

Job Description:

Through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on training and professional experience as a Metrology Engineering Senior Manager (PMEL) Fellow, supporting calibration laboratory operations, metrology engineering activities, and technical program management within a mission-focused environment.

In this Fellowship, the participant will gain exposure to the full lifecycle of metrology and calibration operations, including engineering planning, standards compliance, technical scheduling, feasibility analysis, and development of metrology-focused procedures. The Fellow will work alongside experienced engineering managers, calibration specialists, and technical leadership to build foundational expertise in managing metrology workflows, supporting engineering documentation, and coordinating calibration activities across complex programs.

The Metrology Engineering Senior Manager (PMEL) Fellow will learn how engineering requirements, metrology practices, resource planning, and calibration standards integrate into broader organizational and customer objectives. Throughout the Fellowship, the participant will support documentation tracking, technical coordination, and research into best practices aligned with American National Standards for Calibration.

HOW A METROLOGY ENGINEERING SENIOR MANAGER (PMEL) FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
  • Supporting development and maintenance of engineering project plans, technical schedules, laboratory procedures, and reporting documentation.
  • Assisting with analysis of metrology needs, calibration requirements, and feasibility assessments for new or existing engineering tasks.
  • Gaining exposure to industry calibration standards including ANSI/NCSL Z540 and ANS/ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Supporting metrology laboratory operations through data collection, documentation updates, and review of calibration practices.
  • Assisting with development and refinement of engineering policies, process improvements, and technical workflows.
  • Supporting proposal activities such as Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), transition planning, and technical justification packages.
  • Gaining familiarity with software tools such as Microsoft Office, Fluke MET/Team, Fluke MET/CAL, and Keysight TME.
  • Supporting vendor tracking, ordering workflows, and reconciliation efforts aligned with engineering procurement processes.
  • Assisting engineering leadership with task prioritization, performance tracking, and schedule coordination.
  • Participating in engineering team meetings, technical reviews, and calibration planning sessions.
  • Supporting research on emerging metrology technologies, industry trends, and engineering best practices.
  • Assisting with documentation organization, configuration management, and reporting for metrology-related activities.
  • Supporting cross-functional engineering initiatives and special projects as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education:
  • Master's degree in engineering, metrology, or a related technical field OR equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • 10+ years of relevant technical, engineering, PMEL, or metrology experience preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills:
  • Exposure to metrology, calibration laboratory operations, PMEL functions, or engineering technical support.
  • Familiarity with calibration standards (ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO/IEC 17025) preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures and support engineering documentation development.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with metrology software tools (MET/CAL, MET/Team, Keysight TME) is a plus.

Role Requirements:
  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • On-site participation required.
  • Fellowship schedule aligned with SkillBridge program requirements and GDIT training leadership.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, technical environment.

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
  • PMEL, Metrology, or Calibration Technician certifications
  • Engineering management or project management coursework
  • Calibration standards training (ANSI/NCSL, ISO/IEC 17025)

DoW SkillBridge Eligibility:
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
