ADA Accessibility Analyst

Introduction:

The North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Information Technology Division (ITD) are seeking an ADA Accessibility Analyst. The role involves performing accessibility testing on websites, web applications, and digital documents to ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accessibility testing on websites, web applications, and digital documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Evaluate compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA standards.
  • Use manual and automated testing tools, including assistive technologies.
  • Document findings and provide remediation guidance.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Assist with code-level remediation of accessibility defects.
  • Remediate and convert digital documents into accessible formats.
  • Promote accessibility best practices and support integration into the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain documentation and compliance reports.
  • Stay current with evolving accessibility laws, standards, and technologies.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3 or more years of experience in digital accessibility testing and remediation.
  • Experience with WCAG 2.1/2.2 and Section 508 standards.
  • Experience testing with assistive technologies.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for remediation efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in accessibility or related field.
  • Experience in public sector or regulated environments.
  • Experience remediating PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of digital accessibility standards.
  • Ability to analyze complex systems for compliance gaps.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to inclusive design.
